Kitty Margolis

An evening of vocal jazz
Ticket sales ended for this event.

“Margolis and band sound as if they’re having the time of their lives. Effervescent and witty, deeply romantic, dramatic, invigorating and downright fun.” Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

For one performance only, acclaimed jazz vocalist Kitty Margolis presents an exhilarating and imaginative program that demonstrates the place she has earned in the legacy of jazz innovators. For her first hometown appearance in three years, Margolis will be supported by a quintet including John R. Burr (piano), Dan Robbins (bass), Dave Mac Nab (guitar), Deszon Claiborne (drums) and Alfonso Montuori (sax).

There will be an outdoor VIP reception with Kitty following the performance. Tickets are available to purchase after selecting seats for the performance.

“Underlying and enhancing all her other extraordinary qualities, there was Margolis’ sophisticated musicality–an ear for harmony, an improvisational imagination and a buoyant sense of rhythmic swing that place her at the very top level of the jazz vocal art.” Los Angeles Times

Artist Statement & Bio

“April 30 is International Jazz Day, and it feels like the perfect moment to re-emerge and celebrate the awesome power of jazz to heal, rejuvenate and uplift. Despite the chaos on the planet, life is busy renewing itself. All around us blossoms are popping, birdies are chirping, and the warmth of the sun beckons us back out into the world.

For this show – my first post-pandemic hometown set – I’ve arranged a special program of new material and ‘greatest hits’ specifically focused on these ‘can’t make it up’ times we’re living through.

The great American song canon contains powerful coded capsules that distill all our emotional archetypes.  With my new quintet of the Bay Area’s finest players, we’ll journey from Gershwin to Sondheim to Hank Williams and Percy Mayfield, making stops to visit Mose Allison and John Coltrane along the way.

We don’t have to be brain scientists to understand how exhilarating experiencing live music can be. But did you know that on the quantum tip music is energetic vibration and research has shown that listening with a group of like-minded souls boosts happiness, restores our sense of community and even enhances the body’s immune system at the molecular level?

Can’t wait to re-connect and revel at the magnificent Presidio Theatre. We’ll have a ball and ‘feel all the feels’ together!”

– Kitty Margolis
