Women in the Shadows explores the inner worlds of women artists overshadowed by history. The featured work, composer Jake Heggie and librettist Gene Scheer’s Camille Claudel: Into the Fire, is a theatrical song cycle that traces the life of the brilliant French sculptor. The creators give Claudel a passionate voice, casting her as more than Auguste Rodin’s muse--a formidable artist in her own right. Mezzo-soprano Nikola Printz brings an intense musical and dramatic presence to the role, praised in the San Francisco Chronicle for performances that are “heartrending, musically resplendent . . . and thrillingly fierce.”
