A Premium Fellow Traveler’s Experience

Transportation, Tour, and Lavender Toast to the Presidio Theatre

For less than the cost of an Uber, make your transportation to and from the beautiful Presidio Theatre a seamless and delightful experience through a storytelling-enriched route via a luxury private bus. Led by Shawn Sprocket of Unspeakable Vice, the transport-tour will embark from (and return post-performance to) the GLBT Historical Society Museum in the Castro, taking you back in time through the Queer history of San Francisco. Arrive with ease at the Presidio Theatre for your performance, just in time for a sparkling Lavender Toast with your “fellow travelers”.

The 40-minute tour and transport will highlight key landmarks and milestones in a reverse time travel of San Francisco’s gay political and cultural resistance, culminating in the 1940s-1950s era of Fellow Travelers. Personal histories of some of the San Franciscans who were affected by the Lavender Scare will be brought to life, along with the evolution of queer rights from present-day strides to historic moments.

End your tour with a sparkling lavender toast in the theater lobby before making your way to your seat to experience composer Gregory Spears’ and librettist Greg Pierce’s unforgettable opera, Fellow Travelers.

This experience is available as an add-on when you purchase tickets for Fellow Travelers. If you have already purchased show tickets and would like to add the transportation experience, you may do so here:

ABOUT UNSPEAKABLE VICE

Since 2019, Shawn Sprockett has been researching and sharing the stories of lesser known queer history. Through archival and primary sources, he’s pieced together a rare look at San Francisco’s queer history before the iconic Castro neighborhood. This story highlights the role of Black, Indigenous, and people of color, as well as the large role women and allies played in the formation of modern queer identity.

The North Beach walking tour launched in 2022 and has already hosted more than two hundred guests with a perfect five-star rating on Airbnb. The lecture version of this tour has been shared at many local San Francisco venues, including Manny’s, The Academy, and the San Francisco Historical Society. It has also been featured in the Bay Area Reporter, SF Standard, and among popular tourism guilds in the city.
