Artist Reception & Conversation
Join us on Tuesday, September 15 from 6:00–8:00 PM for a special reception celebrating the exhibition and its artists. Meet Lucy Basta, Ria Sharma, and Tameri Bushra, explore their work, and hear more about the ideas, experiences, and cultural influences that shape their creative practices.
Exhibition Description
Bringing together the work of Lucy Basta, Ria Sharma, and Tameri Bushra, this exhibition explores the ways memory, culture, identity, and lived experience shape our inner and outer worlds.
Across painting, textiles, mixed media, and illustration, the three artists draw from personal histories and cultural traditions while developing distinctly contemporary visual languages. Basta explores diasporic identity, ancestral wisdom, and archetypal storytelling; Sharma transforms geometric abstraction and repurposed Indian textiles into meditations on cultural memory and transformation; and Bushra uses surrealism, symbolism, and organic forms to externalize the complexities of the internal world.
Together, their work creates a dialogue between heritage and self-expression, structure and intuition, and the experiences we inherit and those we create for ourselves.
Presented in partnership with 111 Minna Gallery and the Presidio Theatre, the exhibition continues the Presidio Theatre’s exploration of the dialogue between performance and visual art.
